[edit] Introduction
Since at least 1990, there has been an ongoing conversation between feminists and antiracist activists and scholars about the intersections of race and gender on the internet and in various forms of computer-mediated communication (CMC), as well as in areas like user interface design, software development, and the IT industry. The topics under discussion have included the following:
- Applications of feminist theory and critical race theory
- Economic realities of access
- Identity tourism
- Institutionalized sexism and racism in IT
- Patterns of exclusion of women and non-whites from virtual and/or technical spaces
- Reinscriptions of stereotypes in new media environments
